Trigger Point Injections

A trigger point can most easily be described as a knot in your muscle that forms when the muscle is unable to relax. When your muscles are sore and you massage them, you may feel these knots. A trigger point injection may be necessary when other methods of relief, such as physical therapy, are not effective.

During a trigger point injection, your physician will find the trigger point in your muscle and numb the area with a local anesthetic. A small needle is used to inject medication into the muscle, numbing the area from the inside. After the injection, you’re free to use the muscle as you normally would – however a few days of rest and caution are advised.
