Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a complex disorder that causes severe exhaustion and makes daily activities difficult. We don’t know how or why CFS develops – it cannot be fully explained by any other underlying medical condition. The cause could potentially be certain viral infections, immune system problems or even hormone imbalances. CFS is mostly commonly seen in women in their 40s and 50s, and women in general are 4x more likely to suffer from CFS than men are.
While many other conditions share similar conditions of CFS, the defining trait is that the fatigue experienced lasts for upwards of 6 months and cannot be fixed by a proper night’s sleep.
Other symptoms include:
- Memory Loss
- Dizziness
- Headaches
- Sore Muscles or Joints
- Sore Throat
- Tender Lymph Nodes
There currently is no reliable cure for CFS – though it can be treated to help relieve the symptoms for a time. This may include medications, but also modified sleep routines, stretching exercises, and massage therapy.
