Maged Hamza, MD is an interventional pain management specialist. Dr. Hamza joined the Center for Spine & Pain Medicine bringing in unique advanced expertise to better provide individually customized safe and effective care. He proudly serves as a commissioned officer/captain in the US Airforce.

He brings many years of clinical experience and is recognized internationally as a lecturer, author, and medical device innovator.

Dr. Hamza specializes in the treatment of all types of chronic neck and spine pain. He is a recognized pioneer in the use of spinal cord stimulation and pain pump technology, but his specialty is matching the right treatment to each patient. That may include nerve blocks, radio frequency ablation, injections and other minimally invasive techniques.

He is well known for a highly personalized approach that involves caregivers and family when needed. “Chronic pain does not get the same attention that other conditions do, and patients may go from specialist to specialist,” he says. “My patients have seen as many as seven other doctors before they see me. They are dealing with emotional distress as well as extreme physical pain.”

Dr. Hamza received his Bachelor of Science in Anatomy and Physiology and his medical degree from Cairo University in Egypt. He completed an internship at University Hospital, College of Medicine, at Cairo University, followed by residencies in Anesthesiology and General Surgery at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson. He completed a fellowship in Pain Management at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville and served as an assistant professor.

After four years, he went into private practice and then moved to the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond. There he was director of its interventional pain medicine fellowship, Spine Center, interventional pain, and neuromodulation programs for more than a decade. His patient-centric approach earned Dr. Hamza the distinction of being one of Richmond, Va.’s “Top Doctors” for five straight years.

Dr. Hamza joined Physician Partners of America based in Jacksonville, Floridas from Eastern Virginia Medical School, where he was lead investigator researching innovating methods of diagnosing and treating pain. He then joined Coastal Health in northern Florida as a chief medical officer, and medical director of ambulatory surgery Center surgery Center.

Dr. Hamza is a Diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology with a subspecialty in Pain Medicine, and a Diplomat of the American Board of Medical Examiners. He is a member of 15 medical associations including the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians and the International Spine Intervention Society.
